Africa-PressNamibia. TWO men used a toy AK-47 assault rifle to carry out a robbery at a Swakopmund service station on Friday morning.

The Namibian Police’s crime investigations coordinator in Erongo, deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, said the incident happened around 01h30, when the two suspects broke open the glass entrance door of a Shell service station shop while two employees and a hitchhiker were inside.

The three people in the shop fled from the scene while the suspects took the shop’s cash register, containing about N$4 400, and three mobile phones worth about N$9 000, which belonged to the people who had fled.

“The toy rifle was found dropped a few metres from the shop after the robbers fled,” said Iikuyu. “Nothing was recovered and no arrest made yet.”

Iikuyu asked anyone who witnessed the incident or with information that might assist the police to apprehend the suspects to contact him at 081 246 4757, detective chief inspector John Mwatongwe at 081 246 1121, detective warrant officer Gottfried Paulus at 081 275 5424, or the nearest police station.
