Africa-Press – Namibia. The Road Transportation Board of Namibia (RTBN) recently issued a stern warning to Road Transport Operators that have unscrupulously increased prices in the wake of increasing petrol and diesel prices.
In a statement dated 19 November, the Road Transportation Board indicated, together with the Ministry of Works and Transport, that “The RTBN also want to bring to the attention of all Road Trasnport Operators that the RBTN has received complaints of unauthorised price increases by some Operators. Appropriate legal steps will be taken against such Operators, who may have violated the provisions of the applicable laws.”
The RTBN had deliberated and resolved to allow an increase of not more than 9.2 per cent in light of fuel increase announced by the Ministry of Mines and Energy dated 28 October and effective 03 November 2021.
In an attempt to assist in advocating and implementing hygiene measures amongst commuters, the RBTN further urged Bus and Taxi Operators to reduce the spread of COVID -19 by adhering to strict safety practices and protocols.
The statement added: “It is equally important to note that every economic setor of the country is affected and this fuel increase is to relatively cushion Bus and Taxi operators, against increased financial losses, which can negatively affect the provision of Public Transport to the Citizens, Residents and visitors to our country.”
