Africa-Press – Namibia. A group of aggrieved residents from Tses, a village situated 80km north of Keetmanshoop, last week handed over a petition detailing a series of alleged poor service delivery incidents to //Kharas regional governor Dawid Gertze.

Reading the document, spokesperson Brian !Gaoseb said they have made so many efforts to engage with the Tses Village Council to address the community’s concerns, but that it was in vain.

“Though we succeeded in holding one meeting with the local authority on 23 July 2025, only two councillors were present, who promised that all our issues would be taken up with the full council, but that did not seem to happen,” he read.

The petition raised the concern that the council mined dune sand, which the community did not agree with, as it tarnished the beautiful landscape of the village and further that no proof of income generated from it could be provided to them.

Council also resolved during the same meeting not to continue with the practice, but it is continuing, he added.

The group spokesperson further bemoaned the actions of the council in implementing and imposing charges upon ratepayers without prior consultation, tampering on their monthly accounts, providing false water meter readings, and not attending to water pipe bursts.

The document also indicated allegations of council staff squandering public funds.

“Based on information from the council at a community meeting in June 2025, it was clear that some inexperienced and unlicensed drivers are operating the council transport fleet and further park the cars at their homes whilst there is security at council premises,” read the petition. He continued: “Public transport services are not rendered whilst the bus was bought for that purpose.”

Other allegations entailed unequal treatment when job opportunities occur, double allocation of erven and the lack of ambulance services.

When receiving the document, Gertze informed the group that his office only has a certain degree of conformity to their expectations when it comes to local authorities under the direct supervision of their respective constituency offices.

“I will, however, relay your concerns and engage all government structures mentioned in your petition to determine how best your concerns can be addressed,” he assured the group.
