Africa-Press – Namibia. POLICE personnel in Oshana have been warned that their behaviour when interacting with the public needs to change, or they will face consequences.

During a recent community meeting in the Ondangwa region, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, the police commander for Oshana, expressed his concerns.

Sakaria emphasized the importance of the Oshana police providing support and encouragement to the local community.

He said that the practice of telling individuals seeking assistance to wait without offering any help will no longer be tolerated.

Sakaria noted that it is unacceptable for police officers to be engaged in casual conversations, laughter, or enjoying a cup of tea while people in need are waiting for assistance.

He also highlighted the issue of having only one police officer in the charge office attending to people’s needs.

“It is not that they are not at work, but they are busy running their own personal errands during working hours,” Sakaria explained.

He emphasized that such challenges need to be addressed, and the public should receive quality policing services.

Sakaria stressed that when people approach the police, it is usually because they are facing problems and seeking help.

He made it clear that he no longer wants to hear about individuals going to the police station and waiting for hours without any assistance.

Sakaria instructed the public to always ask for station commanders if they are not being helped, and if that doesn’t resolve the issue, they can contact him directly to address the problem.
