Africa-Press – Namibia. DESERT Jewels head coach Sunette Burden maintains that her side are on the right track, despite another thrashing by Malawi at the Cosana Tri-Nations Series in Blantyre on Tuesday.

The host nation were unplayable inside a packed Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Sports Complex, where they were better in every facet of the entertaining encounter, scorching their rivals 77-25, the biggest scoreline of the tournament to date.

Burden said the players gained invaluable experience against tough opposition in Malawi, despite three heavy losses and one win.

“It’s embarrassing, but I suspect it’s fatigue that is causing our players to miscommunicate,” said Burden.

Namibia started better, scoring first before the Queens took matters into their owns hands with the aid of their enthusiastic eighth player in the stands.

The Marauding Malawians led by 16 baskets to five by the end of the first quarter. They registered 23 baskets to four in the second quarter, stretching their lead to 39-9 at the break.

With little in the way of resistance coming from the Desert Jewels in the third quarter, the Queens took their tally to 58-17 before finishing the fourth quarter with 77 to 25 baskets.

Malawi head coach Peace Kaluwa-Chawinga was naturally pleased with her unbeaten team’s performance.

“The players are responding well to the new tactics, and today they have shown it. My players were consistent in all the four quarters, I am happy,” she said.

The Jewels take on Zimbabwe in today’s first match (09h00), before facing Malawi in the tournament ending fixture in the evening (18h00).
