Africa-Press – Namibia. UNITED States first lady Jill Biden is expected to visit Namibia next week.

This was confirmed by a senior Namibian government source who declined to be named.

Biden’s African trip is expected to include a visit to Kenya.

During her time in Namibia, Biden is expected to specifically focus on women, youth empowerment and educational issues.

Public affairs officer at the American embassy in Namibia Tiffany Miller said they have no information to share on this at the moment.

When asked about the visit, State House press secretary Alfredo Hengari responded on WhatsApp: “I am not in the know.”

International relations and cooperation spokesperson Bertha Amakali referred The Namibian to the Office of the First Lady, who’s spokesperson Ileni Hitula did not respond to messages on Thursday.

Kenyan media reported last month that Biden would be visiting the country in February.

The country’s foreign affairs and diaspora affairs cabinet secretary Dr Alfred Mutua had responded to a question by a journalist on whether Kenya expects to host any high-profile dignitaries in the coming months.

“Next month (February), we will get high-profile leaders coming to our country. The spouse of the US president will be here in this country,” said Mutua, although he did not reveal the purpose of the visit at the time.
