Africa-Press – Namibia. A crucial meeting that could seal the deal on the proposed sale of over 50 service stations is set to take place in Windhoek this week, the Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC) has said.
The conference will focus on the acquisition of service stations by Nasan Energies, a Namibian company, from Vivo Energy Namibia Limited and Engen Namibia.
In 2024, Vivo Energy completed the purchase of Engen Limited from Petronas, which included the Engen Namibia business.
However, as part of the regulatory process, the NaCC determined that Vivo Energy would have to sell several of its service stations to uphold a fair and dynamic market.
Following a thorough evaluation process that assessed both technical expertise and financial proposals, Nasan Energies was selected as the preferred bidder.
NaCC spokesperson Dina //Gowases last week said the crucial meeting will allow them to seek input from all interested and affected parties before making a final decision on the acquisition.
“This stakeholders’ conference is focused on the proposed sale of over 5o service stations operated by Vivo Energy Namibia and Engen Namibia. The acquisition is proposed by Nasan Energies (Pty) Ltd, and the matter is not concluded yet,” //Gowases said.
According to her, the commission, when it approved the merger, imposed a divestiture condition, requiring that some of the businesses operated by the two entities be sold to Namibian-owned companies that do not have pre-existing relationships with the merging parties.
According to //Gowases, the upcoming conference will allow stakeholders – including merging parties, competitors, dealers, affected parties and members of the public – to share their views.
“We would like to have input from all interested stakeholders with regard to what they think about the proposed sale of service stations,” she said.
The commission will also share its preliminary findings at the conference. “I would like to stress that it is preliminary. We have not made a final finding regarding this proposed sale,” she said.
The conference is scheduled for tomorrow from 08h30 to 14h00 at the Avani Windhoek Hotel and Casino. After the conference, the commission will consider all submissions received together with information already at its disposal and inform the public within 30 days of its final decision.
Stakeholders who wish to attend are required to confirm their participation at [email protected] on or before 16 February.
