Africa-Press – Namibia. Swapo Party Secretary-General, Sophia Shaningwa, has called on Namibians to turn up in large numbers and vote for Swapo in the upcoming November elections, saying the ruling party remains the pillar of peace and stability in the country.
Speaking during a mini rally and the renaming ceremony of the Ogongo Swapo branch, now officially known as the Sophia Shaningwa Swapo branch in the Omusati region, Shaningwa said peace in Namibia is not automatic and must be maintained by the people themselves.
“Some countries have lost their peace and stability. We in Namibia must continue to defend ours. The only way to do that is through unity, development, and voting wisely. We do not need war in our country,” she emphasised.
She urged Namibians to safeguard the peace they enjoy, saying even visitors often praise Namibia for its calm environment and are reluctant to leave because of the country’s unique sense of safety.
“Peace is our national treasure, maintained by Namibians themselves. Let us continue voting for Swapo, the party that has kept this country stable and peaceful since independence,” Shaningwa said.
She reminded the public that voting correctly is crucial, as a single spoiled ballot could make a difference.
She urged that when you go to the polling station, make sure to vote correctly in the box for Swapo.
“Do not spoil your ballot, because every vote counts and one mistake can bring unwanted changes,” she cautioned.
Shaningwa further encouraged the electorate to fight with a hand and a paper, not with blood. She added that elections should be conducted in peace and respect.
“We do not want bloodshed in our country anymore that is not our agenda. Our fight is with unity, not violence,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Ogongo District coordinator, Leonard Nangolo expressed pride in the renaming of the branch, saying the decision was made to honour Shaningwa’s loyalty, dedication, and hard work within the Swapo Party.
“This gesture is more than a name change it symbolises respect and appreciation for her leadership. We want the name Sophia Nahango Shaningwa to serve as a reminder of true leadership, humility, service, and perseverance,” he said.
He added that the occasion also marked the introduction of Swapo’s regional councillor candidate to the community which is a sign of the party’s readiness for the upcoming elections.
He indicated that the renaming of the branch is a message to every member that hard work and loyalty never go unnoticed.
