Africa-Press – Namibia. A Walvis Bay couple spent Christmas morning warming the hearts of patients and staff at the Walvis Bay State Hospital.

Paulus Shipanga, his wife Samantha Shipanga, friends and Walvis Bay mayor Trevino Forbes handed out 92 parcels filled with food, toys and cosmetics.

Shipanga, who started the Walvis Bay Christmas drive four years ago, remembers spending a year in hospital after he was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2001.

“I just want to give back. I appreciate the staff. They got me through my struggle that year. It is not easy to spend Christmas in the hospital,” he said.

Shipanga, who has been assisted by the Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) to provide the gifts for he past years, said he would like to have a bigger Christmas drive, and appealed to other companies to join in.

Forbes, who has been accompanying the group since 2020, commended them for their kind gesture.

“It was good to spend the day with them and the patients again. I applaud this group and Namport for their heart of giving. It brings purpose to Christmas. There is nothing greater than giving,” he said.
