Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Erongo police are investigating an unnatural death after an officer died by suicide in his room at the Narraville police barracks on Friday around 21:00.

According to the police, 28-year-old constable Gideon Jambeko Mbinga shot himself in the head with a service pistol. Mbinga left behind a suicide note. No foul play is suspected.

He was declared dead by St Gabriel paramedics at the scene and his body was taken to the Walvis Bay State Hospital Mortuary. Mbinga was stationed at the Special Field Force Subdivision in Walvis Bay.

“We have indeed lost a humble and dependable colleague who constantly wore a smile on his face as he served the communities of Walvis Bay, and in his day-to-day interaction with fellow police officers,” said Inspector Ileni Shapumba, unit commander of community affairs in the Erongo region. “May his soul rest in peace.” The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
