Africa-Press – Namibia. WITH northern areas recording a devastatingly high number of drownings the past few weeks, Monarch Lifeguard and Emergency Services will host free training on water safety. The training is scheduled for 21 to 25 March 2022 at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region.
Founder of Monarch Lifeguard Martin Muyenga said they will for the first time embark from the Erongo region on a water safety awareness and drowning prevention outreach programme to northern school learners.
Muyenga stated that this will be their first-ever awareness campaign, and this comes after many drowning cases were reported in the northern part of the country.
“Most of the people drown mostly during the rainy season due to the high volume of water around the communities,” he said. He stated that those attending the training will learn how to identify risks and what to do in case of an emergency.
They will also learn how to save themselves or rescue others who find themselves in trouble without putting their own lives in danger. Muyenga stated that they will also give the participants swimming lessons and beginner-level practical water survival skills training.
This training is open for children aged four years and above. “This programme is intended to save the nation from the drowning problem engulfing our community,” he added.
Monarch Lifeguard and Emergency Services has 20 lifeguards who are ready to be dispatched across the country if need be. They specialise in water safety education, water emergency rescue, training, lifeguarding, scuba diving, swimming and safety at sea. Muyenga said any schools or individuals interested in benefiting from this programme can contact them at 081 308 0446 for arrangements.
