Africa-Press – Namibia. THE water system extension and upgrade project in Ariamsvlei, as well as Phase 1 of the Karasburg water system extension and upgrade project, funded by NamWater with N$20 million and N$5 million respectively, are set to be completed by December.
This announcement was made by the Governor of the //Kharas Region, Aletta Fredericks, during the State of the Region Address. She highlighted these as crucial projects aimed at ensuring that communities in the region have access to clean water. Fredericks also noted that several other water-related projects are underway in the region.
The other projects she highlighted include the extension and upgrading of the water system in Aroab, with a budget of N$17.2 million, which is currently in progress. She also revealed that Phase 1 of the Naute Dam wall refurbishment is expected to be completed by December 2025, while the extension and upgrading of the water system in Grunau is set for completion by July 2025.
“I would like to highlight the Grunau Extension project is making commendable strides with an investment of N$6 million. In addition to these ongoing projects, we are also exploring new initiatives at the research stage,” Fredericks added.
These new initiatives include the Warmbad Swanson Mine Water Supply Project, with a budget of N$135,000. The governor also revealed that NamWater is working on the Karasburg Terminal Reservoir Chlorine Upgrade, with a budget of N$800,000.
“A broader investment totalling N$108 million is aimed at Critical Upgrades of Pump Stations across the //Kharas region,” she said.
Fredericks also pointed out that the Aus Emergency Water Supply project was successfully completed in May 2024 at a cost of N$3.5 million. Additionally, she said, the Aus Drought Relief Project successfully added an extra borehole to the region’s water supply system, costing N$2.2 million.
