Africa-Press – Namibia. SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) secretary Ephraim Nekongo said local authorities that are demolishing residents’ houses are robbing the party of votes.

Nekongo said this at a SPYL press conference in Windhoek on Saturday. He was referring to an incident in which the Katima Mulilo Town Council demolished residents’ houses last month at the Lwanyanda informal settlement.

“This must be the last action of this nature. Otherwise, we as SPYL will come and fight with our people. We feel that you are robbing us of our votes,” Nekongo said.

According to Nekongo, many local authorities in the country are led by Swapo members. “People will talk about Swapo. They will not talk about mayors or CEOs, but talk about our party,” he said.

“It will be in the newspapers as ‘Swapo demolishing houses’. It will not target individuals but Swapo. And we have pledged to defend the party at all costs,” Nekongo said.

He called upon Namibians and local authorities to engage in and solve issues amicably. Nekongo said this at a SPYL press conference in Windhoek on Saturday.
