Africa-Press – Nigeria. A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Jones Onyereri, has blamed the Adolphus Wabara led BoT for the crisis rocking the party.

The PDP held its national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, where key decisions were taken, including the suspension of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose, and Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s former national secretary.

Many believe that the party has been further divided by some of the decisions reached at the convention, and Onyereri, who was a guest on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, said the BoT has failed to play its leadership role and has instead taken sides.

“I think I should put this blame squarely on the table of members of the Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, because the truth of the matter is that there are certain expectations of the members of the Board of Trustees in the party, because we are supposed to be the moral conscience, the moral compass, and the conscience of the party,” he said.

“What that suggests is that we are meant to be a mutual and stabilizing body that should remain at all times, the key word there is at all times, above factional interest and political division. But unfortunately, recent developments have shown that the leadership, because everything begins and falls on leadership, have taken public decisions, public opinions, and public opposition on matters of intra party crisis, and that has affected the neutrality and the moral authority expected of the board, and we are gradually losing.

“In fact, we have eroded public confidence in the objectivity of the board because of this stance, because the board, through its leadership, sold a wrong narrative to the entirety of the membership of the board, and they now built their argument based on this deception.

“And what was the deception? The genesis of this crisis was on the issue of the national secretary of the party, and they would have simply solved this problem by taking a look at the constitution of the party.

“…But unfortunately, it did not happen, and here we have found ourselves. It is quite unfortunate.”
