Africa-Press – Nigeria. Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has condemned the recent surge in insecurity across the country, describing it as a national emergency that requires urgent and decisive action from the Federal Government.
Kwankwaso, in a statement on Wednesday, said the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, was deeply troubling and a dangerous repetition of past tragedies involving schoolchildren.
He also decried the killing of Brigadier General M. Uba by terrorists in Borno State, calling it “one of the darkest moments” in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency. He said such a major operational lapse must be thoroughly investigated to uncover what went wrong.
Kwankwaso further expressed concern over the mass kidnappings reported in Zamfara State, urging security agencies to ensure the immediate rescue of victims. He added that the surge in bandit attacks across Shanono and Ghari Local Government Areas of Kano State calls for urgent attention and coordinated response.
He commended the Kano State Government for donating operational vehicles to security agencies, noting that such efforts show readiness to support the fight against banditry.
Kwankwaso, however, stressed that the responsibility to protect lives ultimately lies with the Federal Government, warning that the incidents are not isolated but reflect a deteriorating security situation nationwide.
He called for a reinvigoration of Nigeria’s armed forces and the empowerment of the police to protect citizens more effectively.
