Africa-Press – Nigeria. The National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, remains a bona fide member of the party.
Recall that Gbenga Daniel, alongside one of his political associates, Kunle Folarin, was allegedly suspended over purported anti-party activities.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lekan Adeniran, also issued a statement reaffirming that the suspension of the senator remains in full effect, warning that any engagements with him as a member of the party are invalid.
Adeniran stated that the party, in an official correspondence to the APC National Chairman dated October 3, 2025, jointly signed by the State Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, and State Secretary, Tella Aderibigbe, noted that Gbenga Daniel was suspended on August 19, 2025, and the decision was formally communicated to him.
Reacting to this, leaders of the APC from the 103 wards across the nine local government areas in Ogun East, during a press conference last Tuesday, expressed their support for Gbenga Daniel, saying his alleged suspension is fake and unconstitutional.
According to them, the purported suspension was unconstitutional and was not carried out in Daniel’s ward, as required by the party constitution.
However, the National Working Committee of the party, in a letter dated November 17, 2025, and signed by the National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, insisted that Senator Gbenga Daniel’s membership status remains intact.
Basiru stated that the National Working Committee (NWC) has yet to deliberate on the matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution and charged the Ogun State chapter to allow them to investigate the allegations and take an informed decision.
Part of the letter reads: “I bring you compliments from the National Secretariat of our great party and write to inform you that the Party has been inundated with the recent notice of suspension of the Distinguished Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel.
“Please take note that the National Working Committee (NWC) is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution.
“Consequent upon this, you are hereby requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate the matter and take an informed decision on the suspension before issuing any further public correspondence on this matter. Until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party,” Basiru added.
