Africa-Press – Nigeria. Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State paid a condolence visit to the Awolowo family to sympathize with them over the passing of Mr Segun Awolowo Jr.

The governor, accompanied by members of the Ogun State executive council, was warmly received by the widow of the deceased, his children, his elderly mother, Hajia Abba Folawiyo, and other family members.

Sharing reflections on the visit via his verified X account on Sunday, Governor Abiodun described the loss as both a personal and national tragedy, noting the deeply emotional atmosphere at the Awolowo family residence.

He paid tribute to the late Segun Awolowo Jr., describing him as “a fine gentleman, intelligent, warm, respectful, and effortlessly gracious,” and acknowledged the void his passing has left.

“We received the news of his passing with heavy hearts. To us, this is not only a national loss but a personal one. We will always cherish the memories we shared with him,” the governor said.

Governor Abiodun extended his heartfelt condolences to Awolowo’s wife, children, the wider Awolowo family, and all who mourn his loss, praying for the repose of his soul and divine comfort for those he left behind.

Segun Awolowo Jr., the first grandson of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, former Premier of the Western Region, and a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, passed away on Thursday at the age of 62.
