Methodist Bishop Warns of Christian Kidnappings and Killings

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Methodist Bishop of Item Diocese, Abia State, Bishop Ikechukwu Emezi Nkulo, has raised the alarm concerning the rising wave of killings and targeted attacks on Christians across the North, Middle Belt, and parts of the South East.

He also condemned the current wave of kidnappings of worshippers and schoolchildren in parts of the North, saying that the situation should not be allowed to continue because of 2027 political interests.

The Bishop said this on Saturday in a message he delivered about national issues.

He cited the continued hostage situation involving Leah Sharibu, the brutal killing of a female student, Deborah Samuel Yakubu, over alleged blasphemy, and the ongoing assaults on Christian worship centres nationwide, including the recent incident at CAC Ekuru in Kwara State.

According to him: “Nigeria is under siege from insecurity. This is not the time for political games or early election fever. The Federal Government must act decisively to protect its citizens.”

“National leaders should prioritize security, justice, and human dignity above preparations for the 2027 elections,” said Bishop Nkulo.

The Methodist Bishop, who condemned the recent judgement by the Federal High Court sentencing IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to life in prison, described the ruling as “potentially destabilizing.”

Nkulo, who prayed for peace, unity, and a safe Nigeria, reiterated that a political solution remains the most viable path to healing and resolution in the country.
