Africa-Press – Nigeria. A former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has cautioned against drawing parallels between Nigeria and Venezuela, insisting that both nations are fundamentally different.
Ahmad made the assertion on Saturday via a post on X while reacting to claims surrounding the alleged arrest of Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro.
According to him, Nigeria’s political and security realities are not the same as those of Venezuela, questioning how a sitting president could allegedly be apprehended within his own country.
“Regardless of the angle you look at it from, Nigeria is not Venezuela. We differ in every aspect,” Ahmad wrote.
“So how does a sitting president get captured just like that, in his own nation?”
His remarks followed an announcement by former United States President, Donald Trump, who claimed that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, had been taken into custody.
In response, Venezuela’s Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, demanded that the United States present proof that Maduro is alive.
She also disclosed that she currently has no information regarding the whereabouts of the president and his wife.
Rodríguez made the demand during a telephone interview with Venezuelan television, coming shortly after reports of US military strikes in the country.
