Africa-Press – Nigeria. Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lokoja, have conducted coordinated patrols and ambushes in Kabba Bunu and Yagba West local government areas of Kogi State.
According to a statement on Saturday, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the troops acted on credible intelligence about bandits moving from Adankolo towards Agbadu Bunu in Kabba Bunu LGA.
Troops swiftly deployed and laid an ambush at a known crossing point, engaging the bandits when they ran into it.
“The troops neutralized two bandits and recovered one AK-47 rifle during the encounter,” the statement said.
Further intelligence indicated another bandit movement around Saminaka village in Yagba West LGA.
Troops, working with local vigilantes, conducted a patrol of the village and surrounding forested areas.
On arrival, the village appeared deserted, prompting troops to explore the forest and routes leading to Saminaka Sabo Rijiya road, where they engaged several bandits.
During the operation, troops arrested a suspected bandit logistics supplier, identified as Sunday Adedotun of Odo Eri village, Yagba West LGA.
The suspect, found on a farmland within Saminaka village, claimed he was assisting farmers with transporting produce.
Items recovered include cartons of energy and soft drinks, bottled water, and harvested farm produce.
Adedotun is currently in custody, undergoing investigation.
Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism, courage, and prompt response to credible intelligence.
He assured the public that troops would continue aggressive patrols, ambushes, and intelligence-driven operations to deny criminal elements freedom of movement in the area.
