Africa-Press – Nigeria. There was heightened tension in Ugba, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, over the weekend as the conferment of a chieftaincy title on governorship hopeful, Sebastian Hon, SAN, was disrupted by the Executive Chairman of the Council, Mr. Clement Kav.

Hon had been invited by the Ugondu Traditional Council to be conferred with an honorific chieftaincy title in recognition of his promotion of social justice in Nigeria, on the occasion of the Ugba Day Celebration on Friday.

Pandemonium ensued when Hon and his entourage arrived at the residence of Mue Ter Ichongo, Chief Terngu Iorhuna, in Ugba, the headquarters of Logo LGA.

The council chairman, Hon. Kav, arrived at the scene with a former Nigerian ambassador to Russia and governorship candidate in the 2011 general elections, Prof. Steve Ugba. They arrived at the palace fuming with rage, with Hon. Kav declaring:

“I’ll never allow anyone to disrespect Alia”, referring to Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia. We don’t want these guests in Logo.”

He then left hastily in waiting vehicles, along with other cars branded with Governor Alia’s image.

Hon quietly left the traditional ruler’s residence and proceeded to Hon. Iorkohol Ijir’s house, where he was given a rousing welcome.

Hon. Kav later returned to the area with a detachment of police, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), and ordered that Chief Hon leave Ugba.

Addressing the large crowd before leaving the town, Hon said he had not come to instigate trouble in Ugba or anywhere else in the state.

He thanked the traditional council and the people of Logo for finding him worthy of the honor:

“I believe the Logo community has welcomed me. I haven’t come to scatter the community, so I pray that God blesses you for offering me a title that has given some people sleepless nights. I also pray for those persecuting me.

“I haven’t declared for the contest yet, and some people are already restless. So when I decide to run, what will they do?

“I don’t want anybody’s blood to be spilled because of me, so I’m going back, and the title should be brought to me.”
