Good afternoon and welcome to AfricanFootball.com’s LIVE COVERAGE of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group B clash between Nigeria and Guinea from Alexandria Stadium, on Wednesday 26 June 2019.
Lineups:
Nigeria: Akpeyi; Aina, Balogun, Awaziem, Omeruo, Ndidi, Etebo, Musa, Ighalo, Simon, Iwobi.
Guinea: Kone; Sylla, Seka, Falette, Dyrestam, Diawara, N.Keita, Cisse, Kamano, Traore, Kaba.
Commentary:
62′ Yellow Card – Musa goes into the referee’s book.
61′ Chance! Another good save by Kone to deny Iwobi once more. All Nigeria at the moment.
55′ Nigeria have taken control of the match over the last few minutes with Ndidi the main protagonist. Guinea for the time being holding firm at the back.
48′ Break in play as Naby Keita receives some treatment. The Liverpool midfielder came into the tournament having yet to recover from the injury he sustained against Barcelona last month. He looks okay to continue though.
46′ The second half is underway in Alexandria. No changes to either side.
45+2′ HT: Nigeria 0-0 Guinea
45′ One minute added to the half.
37′ Shot! Iwobi finds his range from… range, but Kone is up to the task. The resulting corner-kick comes to nothing.
32′ Chance! Ighalo beats the offside trap before firing his shot into the side-netting. Musa was calling for the ball, but the forward decided to go for goal himself from a more acute angle.
27′ Yellow Card – Falette goes into the referee’s book following a crunching challenge on Ighalo.
23′ Chance! Kamano fires his free-kick attempt inches over the crossbar following a foul by Simon.
20′ Following what was an exhilarating start, things have calmed down in terms of goal scoring chances with both teams struggling to find their man. Plenty of niggle to add – understandable with lots on the line.
14′ Chances continue to come at either end of the pitch as Ndidi sends his header attempt from a corner-kick inches over the crossbar.
6′ Chance! Nigeria have really turned up the heat down the wings in the blazing conditions. Moments after Iwobi skinned his man, Musa weaved his way into a dangerous area before teeing up Ighalo who failed to convert from close range.
2′ Nervy start for Akpeyi who only succeeds in spilling Cisse’s shot from range. He is bailed out by his defence who clear from danger.
1′ Kick-off in Alexandria!
Just a reminder that if Nigeria win, they will be the first team to book their place in the knockout stages.
Teams are out on the pitch, kick-off imminent. Hot conditions as can be expected, but not as hot as Cairo at least!
