26 killed, kidnapped victims freed in Zamfara, Katsina

No fewer than 26 suspected bandits have been killed and kidnapped victims rescued in Zamfara and Katsina States by Nigerian military operatives attached to HADARIN DAJI.

Also, the troops recovered nine firearms and several ammunition in the operations carried out on March 19.

Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko disclosed these in a statement released Saturday afternoon.

He said that two of the bandits were invalidated at Bindim and Koli Towns in Maru Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State, where 17 rounds of 7.62mm AK47 ammunition and a motorcycle were recovered.

“In the same vein, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI while on patrol at Gando, rescued seven males and two females kidnapped by bandits. The victims have been handed over to their families.

“Also, about 42 cattle and 38 sheeps were recovered. Troops are currently dominating the area with patrols which have helped to build confidence of locals.

“Similarly, on March 19, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI responded to a distress call on the movement of bandits with rustled animals within Gurbin Magarya, Kwari and Garin Gado villages of Jibia LGA, Katsina State.

“In the course of the operation, 24 bandits were killed in action, four AK47 rifles, two locally made pistols and three Dane guns were recovered.

“The public is hereby encouraged to provide credible information to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, just as the Nigerian military and other security agencies remain resolute to the conduct of operation towards security of lives and properties in line with the vision of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin,” he said.
