Africa Press-Nigeria:

The father of a commissioner in Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commissioner (ASOPADEC); Henry Chilka, Pa Chilaka has regained freedom from the custody of his abductors.

While information about his release was still sketchy at the time of filing the report, information has it that Pa Chilaka has reunited with his family eight days after he was abducted from his Ugwati village in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state last week Tuesday.

While information has it that undisclosed amount of ransom was paid before the abductors were able to release the septuagenarian, sources said that the gunmen had demanded N60m and later came down to N10m days before his eventual release.

“After dribbling the person who had gone to pay the ransom from Igirita to Chokocho community, Igbo-Etche LGA of Rivers State where they eventually collected the ransom worth millions of naira, they later released the old man to his family members,” said a source.

The Nation recalled that Pa Chilaka on the day of his kidnap thought that the knock on the door was from his children, not knowing that it was from men wielding gun, who forcefully took him that night to an unknown destination.
