Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two children who were abducted in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The suspect, identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, was said to be a relative of the victims. He allegedly kidnapped the two minors because of a long-standing family dispute with his uncle, who is the father of the children.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the victims’ father, Aliyu Hamisu of Tilden Fulani, had reported that his two children — 12-year-old Halima Hamisu and 6-year-old Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu were abducted on Thursday while waiting for their school bus along the main road in Tilden town.

Wakil said police detectives, led by CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, immediately launched an investigation after receiving the report.

He explained that an eyewitness saw a man using a tricycle to pick up the children. Later that day, the kidnapper contacted the family using a foreign phone number to avoid being tracked and demanded a ransom of N50 million.

After negotiations, the suspect reportedly agreed to collect N1.2 million as ransom at Farmers Motors Junction in Bauchi. However, further police investigations traced him to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the two children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents.

“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives from the division strategically cordoned off the area, which led to the arrest of the suspect at the point of collecting the ransom,” Wakil said.

In a separate operation, the Command also arrested two suspects for motorcycle theft in Bauchi metropolis. Wakil said that on October 21, 2025, the police arrested Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu of Gwallaga area in possession of a stolen white Jincheng motorcycle valued at N100,000, belonging to Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street. The suspect confessed to the crime and is under investigation.

Similarly, on October 22, 2025, one Hafiz Yaro Ahmed reported that his son’s black Haojue motorcycle, valued at N250,000, was stolen from where it was parked in front of a bank along Murtala Muhammad Way, Bauchi. Detectives later arrested Abdulrahman Ibrahim of Gwallaga area with the stolen motorcycle. He admitted stealing it with plans to dismantle and sell it as scrap.

Wakil said all the suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court once inquiries are completed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that all cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action. He also urged residents to report any suspicious movement or criminal activity to the nearest police station for quick response.
