Africa-Press – Nigeria. Justice Williams Aziegbemhin of the Benin High Court on Wednesday, remanded one Abubakar Musa for allegedly converting 300,000 euros to his personal use.
The judge ordered that Musa be remanded in custody of the police command in Benin for an initial period of 14 days, pending the conclusion of police investigations.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor, Mr Polycap Odion, told the court that Musa, who claimed to be a “Bureau De Change” operator, allegedly received 500,000 Euros from a client to be given to her family in Benin.
Odion alleged that instead Musa only released 200,000 Euros and refused to release the remaining amount.
He told the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and pleaded that the defendant should be remanded that the police custody pending when investigations were conducted.
Odion told the court that the motion was brought pursuant to Sections 293, 294 and 296 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of the State 2016.
The prosecutor said if his prayer was granted, it would enable the police to conclude diligent investigation, under the inherent jurisdiction of the court to administer justice.
Aziegbemhin granted the prosecutor’s motion experts as prayed.
The judge adjourned the case until May 19 for hearing.
