The APC national chairman said that despite the growth in Nigeria’s economy, poverty level was still high

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, has decried the high level of poverty in Nigeria.
Oshiomhole while speaking at the maiden Presidential policy roundtable retreat at the Villa on Wednesday, July 24, said he was reviewing the progress made by the APC-led administration.
The ruling party leader said although the implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) has helped Nigeria pull out of recession within a short time, there was still a high rate of poverty.
Oshiomhole in his review of the administration said the rate of economic growth in Nigeria is still far less than the rate of population growth.
“Unfortunately, if our economic growth rate is still lower than the rate of population growth, poverty would remain endemic,” Oshiomhole said.
“We don’t just want to grow the economy and create more wealth; we are also interested in who is benefiting from this wealth and what policy instruments are required to ensure that inequality is addressed and that the average Nigerian people particularly the mass that constitutes the electorate benefit from the fruit of growth,” he added.
The president while commending his vice, Yemi Osinbajo, for his initiatives urged Nigerian elites to put in more effort in alleviating poverty among citizens.
