As Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state intensifies negotiations with the main opposition party to seek re-election in office, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its governorship primary in the state.
Legit.ng reports that the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan, stated this in a tweet on Thursday, June 18.
The party’s primary which was earlier slated for Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, has now been postponed to Tuesday, June 23.

Although the party’s spokesman didn’t explain the reason for the postponement, it was gathered it may not be unconnected with the planned defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki any moment from now.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the suspended national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole broke silence on the planned defection of Governor Obaseki to the PDP.
It was reported that the embattled governor took a bow out of the ruling party like a feisty warrior on Tuesday, June 16, after collapsed attempts to make the warring parties in Edo APC bury their grievances.
Reacting to Obaseki’s resignation, Oshiomhole described the development as “good riddance to bad rubbish.”
The APC chairman also vowed that the ruling party will go to court due to the discrepancies in Obaseki’s certificate should the PDP field in the governor as its flagbearer in the forthcoming election.
