Africa-Press – Nigeria. Details are emerging about thr attack by gunmen that led to the death of five worshippers during early morning prayers at a mosque in Yandoton Daji, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
A resident of the area, Isma’il Lawal, who lost relatives in the incident, told DAILY POST that the attackers stormed the village around 5:30 a.m. while prayers were in session.
According to him, the gunmen killed the Imam and four others on the spot, before abducting an unspecified number of people whose whereabouts remain unknown.
“The five victims have already been buried,” Lawal said.
Some photos shared by residents on social media showed bloodstains all over the mosque, as they kept calling for help from authorities and security personnel in the area.
A local resident, who asked not to be named, said everyone in the community was gripped by fear and panic.
“We are truly in distress. This attack has shaken people deeply. We don’t even know what to do right now — whether to flee or stay and risk our lives,” he said in anguish.
This latest attack comes amid a series of violent raids in Tsafe LGA. In April 2025, bandits launched coordinated assaults on several communities, including Yandoton Daji, killing two people and abducting more than 60 residents.
Our attempt to hear from the Zamfara State Police Command proved abortive, as the State PPRO Muhammadu Shehu’s phone was switched off.
In 2022, controversy engulfed the emirate after the Emir of Yandoton Daji, Aliyu Marafa was suspended for conferring a traditional title on wanted terrorist, Ado Aleru, naming him Sarkin Fulani (leader of the Fulani) of the emirate.
