Africa-Press – Nigeria. No fewer than five people lost their lives while a residential building was set ablaze after gunmen launched a night assault on Azoke village in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to local sources, the attack happened around 9:00 p.m. on February 19 when suspected attackers from Akparata community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State allegedly stormed the settlement.

Those killed in the incident were identified as Nwefuru Elu, Nwefuru Agnes, Nwali Nworie Christianana, Obasi Nwode and Nwozo Nwode.

Residents disclosed that the assailants also torched a house owned by Elumu Nwokwo during the raid, worsening fear and anxiety among community members.

Security operatives reportedly responded after receiving a distress call and visited the area to assess the situation and collect preliminary evidence for investigation.

Authorities said a manhunt had been launched to track down the perpetrators, adding that a detailed probe was underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.

Community members have been advised to stay calm and work closely with security agencies, as efforts are being strengthened to forestall any further outbreak of violence.
