FUTA students protest, barricade highway over robbery attacks in off-campus hostels

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, protested on Friday over the incessant robbery attacks that have been ravaging the student community.

During the protest, the students barricaded the busy Akure-Ilesha highway, leading to a traffic jam on the road.

Armed with placards bearing various inscriptions such as “Students Lives Matter,” “Please Save Us From Robbers,” and “We No Longer Sleep,” the protesting students voiced their frustration and fear regarding the activities of suspected burglars in their off-campus hostels.

They appeal for urgent attention to improved security measures to ensure their safety within the area.

The protest, which caused a heavy traffic jam, left commuters and motorists stranded for several hours.

Police officers, who arrived at the scene, negotiated with the students and encouraged them to clear the barricades from the road.
