Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has gotten accolades from the African Centre for Transparency and Anti-Corruption Advocacy (Africa-taad) for approving the establishment of an anti-graft institute in the state.
The anti-graft agency which shall be called: ‘Kano Anti-Corruption Institute.’, was approved by Ganduje after holding the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting with his commissioners, The Nation learnt.
Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor Abba Anwar in a statement, said the African Centre’s commendation was contained in a letter signed by it’s Executive Director, Isma’ila Auwal, which was sent to the governor.
Part of the letter reads: “This is a gesture that needs to be appropriately acknowledged.”
“Kano state will remain indebted to the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for establishing a state-owned agency to fight corruption. We commend the governor for also entrusting the agency in the hand of the most appropriate person to guide its affairs.
“We have realised that Kano is one of the most important states, not only in Nigeria, but in the whole of the African continent. And getting it right the fight against corruption in the state means a lot to the country’s fight against corruption. It also means development of the continent.
“The decision to establish the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute symbolises the weight that the Kano state government places on the fight against corruption.
“We shall continue to support any development effort put forward by the Anti-Corruption agency and the Kano state government to combating corruption at all levels.
Auwal described the fight against corruption as an “investment in the future” for not only Kano state but Nigeria at large.
The Centre called on the anti-corruption agency to sustain its current tempo in the fight against corruption in Kano. It urged the state government to ensure full implementation is done for the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Institute immediately.
