Ganduje’s media aide calls Osinbajo VP Academics on social media

The director-general, media and communications for the Kano state government, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, on Tuesday, September 24 described Professor Yemi Osinbajo as vice president academics.

Yakasai, popularly known as Dawisu on micro-blogging site, Twitter, made the statement in response to a tweet suggesting that most Nigerian government officials are in Nw York for the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

Vice President (Academics) is still around sir, Dawisu tweeted in response to one Ismail Kabir.

The tweet is coming at a time rumours are rife that the presidency is moving to reduce the powers of the vice president and subsequently sideline him.

Osinbajo had during the period, sacked the former director-general of the Directorate of State Security, Lawal Daura, who is a close ally of the president.

“Osinbajo showed a lot of capacity in leading this country when President Muhammadu Buhari was away and those who are following the trend knew he took very confident and hard decisions that ought to have been taken by an active president.

“That never happened while Buhari was around and so those particular decisions that he took stepped on toes and they were waiting for a time when they could take their pound of flesh,” Tanko told The Guardian.

Meanwhile, the coalition of Northern Nigerian Youth has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to halt any attempt that can lead to maltreatment or embarrassment of any kind on the personality and Office of Osinbajo.

Speaking to the journalists in Kano on Monday, September 23, Mallam Yusuf Abdulmalik, leader of the coalition, said he believes that the news going around the media that the presidency is moving to reduce the powers of the vice president and subsequently sideline him, is a rumour.
