– The Kano governor appointed Aminu Ado Bayero for Bichi, Ibrahim Abdulkadir for Gaya, Tafida Abubakar for Rano, and Ibrahim Abubakar for Karaye

– The new emirs will be given the staff of office during an event on Saturday, May 11, to be held at Sanni Abacha stadium

Despite the court order restraining him from continuing with his plan to create four additional emirates, the Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appointed new emirs in what has reportedly escalated tension in the state.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that on Wednesday, May 8, the governor assented the bill for the creation of four new emirates in the state after it was successfully passed by the members of Kano state House of Assembly led by Speaker Kabiru Alhassan.

The bill was said to be a political vendetta by the governor targeted against Emir Muhammadu Sanusi in order to whittle down his power and influence to ten local government.

Kano state high court in a judgement on Friday, May 10, restrained the governor from proceeding with the move.

Governor Ganduje, however, shunned the court order to appoint the emirs for the new emirates.

In a report by The Cable, Muhammad Garba, commissioner for information for the state, said the new emirs are Aminu Ado Bayero (Bichi), Ibrahim Abdulkadir (Gaya), Tafida Abubakar (Rano), and Ibrahim Abubakar (Karaye).

Garba added that the new emirs would receive their letters of appointment and staff of office at a ceremony to be held at famous Sani Abacha Stadium on Saturday, May 11.

He said Kabiru Alhassan, speaker of the Kano house of assembly, would be the kingmaker in Rano emirate, with Rurum, who holds the traditional title of Turakin Rano, also enlisted as one of four kingmakers in the emirate.

Ado Bayero is one of the sons of the predecessor of Muhammadu Sanusi, the incumbent emir of Kano.

The emirs have been directed to prepare for the new appointment that will take effect on Saturday.
