Africa-Press – Nigeria. An alleged plot by some members of Okorie family to evict two female orphans from their father’s house has failed in Eluoma Uzuakoli community of Bende LGA of Abia State.
This followed the prompt intervention of the member representing Bende South constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Ndubuisi, who visited the family on Tuesday to prevent the outbreak of crises in the family.
The two sisters, Kelechi Okorie and Chinwendu Okorie had on Monday, cried out to Governor Alex Otti and human rights activist to save them from being evicted from their late parents’ house.
According to the two sisters, a senior male relative and a female family member allegedly stripped them of family inheritance and were on the verge of evicting them from their father’s house after the death of their parents, on the claims that they were girl-children who have no rights in the family.
The controversy generated by the orphans, created tension in the family and the community with some human rights and girl-child activists calling for thorough investigation of the matter.
But in a swift response, the members representing Bende South constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Ndubuisi visited the family on Tuesday to douse the tension.
The lawmaker who is an indigene of Uzuakoli, on arrival at the family, sued for peace and made it clear that it is illegal to evict female children from their family house on gender basis.
Ndubuisi promised that the matter will justice will be done on the matter.
Meanwhile, the two girls, Kelechi and Chinwendu on Wednesday, issued a joint statement thanking human rights activist, Journalists and their Facebook followers for not coming to our rescue.
“They wanted to evict us because they said we are women, but you people were there for us. We are very grateful,” the two sisters said in appreciation.
