Africa Press-Nigeria:

Amid spate of killing and bandit attacks on communities in the northwest region of Nigeria, Senator Shehu Sani has called for protection for traditional rulers.

Sani, a former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, said this while reacting to recent attacks in Kaduna, Zamfara and Borno which left many people dead and properties ruined.

Speaking via a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Saturday, August 1, the outspoken former lawmaker lamented the rise in attacks and posited that traditional rulers have also become targets just like their subjects.

He said most often, the local rulers are kidnapped and killed by terrorists and bandits invading their vulnerable communities.

The former lawmaker’s revelation is coming barely a months after two local rulers: Malam Dikko Usman of the Mazoji and Sarkin Fulani Fafu village and Abubakar Atiku Maidabino of Yantumaki village in Danmusa Local government area of Katsina were killed by suspected bandits.

Sani said local chiefs must be put into consideration in the protection strategy of the federal and state governments.
