Derby County are set to run the rule over former Celtic and Hibernian centre-back Efe Ambrose with a view to signing the Nigerian international.
The 30-year-old is a free agent which means he can join a club outside a transfer window.
It is believed Ambrose is due to train with the Rams in the coming days.
The January transfer window closed without Derby adding to their options at centre back despite manager Frank Lampard stressing the importance of bringing in competition and cover for Richard Keogh and Fikayo Tomori, the first-choice pairing.
Ambrose triggered a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave Hibs in January although the club offered him a new deal.
Bolton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic, as well as Turkish Super Lig side Akhisarspor and Swedish outfit Orebro were among a number of clubs reportedly monitoring the defender’s situation.
