Irate Mob Burns House Over Suspected Stolen Items

Africa-Press – Nigeria. An irate mob set ablaze a property containing suspected stolen motorcycles and other items on George Akume Way in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, on Friday.

The incident caused major traffic congestion as commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders) blocked the main roads, demanding that security agencies disclose the identity of the property owner.

The suspected stolen items were discovered through a collaborative effort between the police and a motorcycle owner, who used a tracker to trace his stolen vehicle to the house.

Upon locating his stolen motorcycle at the property, the owner alerted other Okada riders. Together with the police, they surrounded the building, broke in, and discovered several motorcycles, sewing machines, and grinding machines—all suspected to have been stolen.

The police immediately evacuated the motorcycles to E. Division Police Station in Makurdi.

Angered by the discovery, the Okada riders barricaded the busy George Akume Way and demanded that police vacate the building so they could set it on fire.

The police have urged anyone with complaints of stolen motorcycles, grinding machines, sewing machines, or other household items to report to E Division Police Station in Wurukum, Makurdi.
