Africa-Press – Nigeria. A 39-year-old man, Oparinde Olatunbosun, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ogba, Lagos, over allegations of illegal possession of a firearm.
Olatunbosun was arraigned on a two-count charge relating to conspiracy and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He pleaded not guilty to both counts.
According to the prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police Josephine Ikhayere, the defendant allegedly conspired with others who are currently at large to commit a felony on December 25, 2025, at about 3:00 a.m. at the Itamaga Roundabout area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
The prosecution further alleged that Olatunbosun was found in possession of a semi-automatic pump-action gun and one live cartridge without lawful authorisation from the Inspector-General of Police.
Ikhayere told the court that the defendant claimed the firearm was intended for security purposes, stating that he was using it to safeguard Akinsanya Estate in Ikorodu in his capacity as a local security operative.
The offences, she said, contravened Sections 330(d) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until February 24 for mention and possible commencement of trial.
