Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Dr Rabiu Olowo, has said all finance and account officers in the state will be certified by the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) irrespective of their grade levels.

He spoke at the opening of the training of 500 finance and account officers on IPSAS Certification course at NECA House, Alausa Ikeja.

He said although the state already has over 500 IPSAS-certified officers, there is a need to incorporate all officers who manage the state finances the ministries, departments and agencies.

”We want to simplify the process of preparing our financial statements. We want the new officers being trained to be able to support the State Treasury Office in the preparation of financial statements,” he said.

He expressed the state’s determination to make its officers complaint with modern global accounting standards.

Olowo attributed the state’s impressive financial ratings to the professionalism and competence of its employees.

Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary of State Treasury Office, (STO) Dr Abiodun Muritala, said with those being trained, Lagos would have more competent hands and core professionals to manage its finances.
