NDLEA Seizes 7.6 Million Tramadol Pills and Cannabis

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have seized more than 7.6 million pills of tramadol and over 76,273.4 kilograms of cannabis, including Colorado, Loud and Skunk, in a series of coordinated, intelligence-led operations across several states.

The agency also arrested multiple members of Drug Trafficking Organisations (DTOs) linked to the consignments.

In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said 3,874,000 tablets of tramadol (225mg and 100mg) and 252.2 litres of codeine syrup were intercepted from a major warehouse at Oko Market in Asaba, Delta State, on Saturday.“These seizures are the outcome of painstaking intelligence tracking and sustained offensive action across the supply chain,” Babafemi said.

Earlier on 3 December, operatives intercepted 1.2 million tramadol 225mg pills from a suspect, Kelechi Nwakocha, at Orogwe along the Onitsha–Owerri road. The consignment was reportedly loaded in Aba and headed to Onitsha.

More Raids Across States

In Adamawa State, a Toyota Hiace bus loaded with 1,577,112 tramadol and Exol-5 capsules concealed in jumbo bags of new rubber sandals was intercepted on 1 December.

Two suspects, Kabiru Buba and Hamza Abubakar, were arrested.

Similarly, along the Zaria–Kano expressway, operatives arrested Mudansir Rabiu with 197,000 tablets of Exol-5.

In Ekiti State, NDLEA’s special operations unit stormed forests in Omuo-Ekiti, destroying 14,654kg of skunk and arresting two suspects: Yusuf Iliyasu and Okumu Chinedu.

Another operation in Asin-Ekiti razed two cannabis warehouses where 54,300kg of skunk was destroyed and 28.3kg recovered for prosecution.

In Ondo State, operatives raided the Igoba forest in Akure North, recovering 5,442kg of compressed skunk and arresting five suspects: Jacob Omodowo, Joy Oluatobi Peace, Babatunde Olamide, Echi Fidelis Joseph and Ankrah Akano.

Further Operations Nationwide

A total of 500kg of cannabis was seized along the Mokwa–Jebba road in Niger State from a Mercedes-Benz van, and the driver, Amos Yakubu, was arrested. In Abuja, operatives intercepted 22kg of Colorado at the Abaji expressway and later arrested a female receiver, Ali Blessing, at Jabi Park. Another suspect, Aliyu Usman, was also arrested along the Kwali–Gwagwalada expressway with 24kg of skunk and 573,500 Exol-5 pills.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives recovered 113kg of Canadian Loud from Ezenwa Udoka, 351kg of skunk from Izuchukwu Usulor, and 104.1kg of skunk from Susan Okoro. In Edo State, 447.5kg of skunk was discovered in two vehicles in Agho Forest, leading to the arrest of Dada Adedara Babawibi. A separate warehouse raid in the Isiefve community resulted in the seizure of 315.8kg of skunk and the arrest of Stanley Obasuwa.

Marwa Commends Operatives

NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), lauded the officers for their sustained efforts against drug cartels.“Your operational successes across the country, especially your balanced approach to both drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction, are well appreciated,” Marwa stated.

The agency said its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns also continued nationwide throughout the week.
