Africa-Press – Nigeria. Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has ordered the temporary lifting of embargo placed on employment in the state.

The move is to allow for the immediate employment of 19 best performing graduates of a digital training programme organized by Abia State government.

Governor Otti who announced the automatic employment during the graduation ceremony in Umuahia, on Saturday, directed the Head of Service, Mr Benson Ojeikere, to prepare necessary documents for the graduates to commence work on May 12, 2025.

He also directed that 509 sets of laptop computer should be given to the trainees, even as he said another set of 850 trainees to be selected from different local government areas should be picked for the second batch of the ICT training.

“And I would like to instruct the Head of Service to work with the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation and of course the Chief Information Officer and ensure that the 19 of you start work with the Abia Civil Service.

“The effective start date is on Monday. Head of Service, please prepare your documentation so that I would temporarily lift the ban on employment,” Otti instructed.

According to the governor, his administration does not believe in empowering people with tricycles.

One of the graduates, Mr. Samuel Uchendu, while appreciating Governor Otti, said they were trained in digital animation and artificial intelligence among others, adding that the knowledge obtained

would enhance their future.
