Lobi Stars of Makurdi missed the opportunity to return to the top of the NPFL table yesterday after they were forced to a 0-0 draw at home by table toppers, Plateau United.
In a match without clear cut chances, Plateau United stood firm to earn a vital point away to maintain their unbeaten run in six matches and also stay on top of the table.
Meanwhile, Rivers United benefitted from Lobi Stars 0-0 draw with Plateau United as they sneaked into the second place following their 2-1 victory over visiting Kano Pillars.
Konan N’gouan opened scoring for the Pride of Rivers in the 20th minute when he converted from the penalty spot before Emotan Cletus sealed all three points for Rivers United with an 87th minute goal.
Pillars talismanic captain, Rabiu Ali got a consolation for his side in the 91st minute.
In Uyo, Akwa United also missed the chance to close the gap on third placed Lobi Stars, managing to grind out a late goal to draw 1-1 draw with relegation threatened Warri Wolves.
Jumbo Wisdom put the visitors ahead from the spot in the 70th minute while leading goal scorer Ndifreke Effiong rescued a point for his side with the last kick of the match.
Akwa United remain fourth on the table while Warri Wolves move up to 16th.
Elsewhere, Enyimba’s winning streak ended at the Lafia Township stadium where they were beaten 2-0 by Nasarawa United.
Experienced striker, Chinedu Ohanachom put the ‘solid miners’ ahead in the 33 minutes after Haggai Katoh’s low effort hit the bar.
Hagai Katoh then completed a brilliant performance by scoring the second goal of the match in the 89th minute.
At the Muhammdu Dikko stadium, Joseph Atule was the hero for Katsina United as his goal in the 6th minute proved enough to hand the ‘Chanji boys’ the maximum points against Abia Warriors.
Jigawa Golden Stars also came from behind to record a 2-1 victory over Wikki Tourists, Rangers forced Sunshine Stars to 0-0 draw in Akure, Adamawa United pipped FC IfeanyiUbah 2-1 in Gombe just as Heartland forced MFM to 0-0 draw at the Agege township stadium.
The other week 21 fixture played on Saturday between Dakkada FC of Uyo and Kwara United ended in 0-0 draw.
