Africa-Press – Nigeria. Lagos State Police Command has arrested 68 suspected criminals, including members of a syndicate accused of defrauding people seeking admission to overseas institutions.
Others were apprehended for offences ranging from armed robbery to murder and traffic-related crimes.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters. He also revealed that 17 firearms were recovered during the operations, alongside several stolen vehicles, including a 2021 Lexus SUV Hybrid valued at over N75 million.
According to CP Jimoh, the recent successes stem from the adoption of fresh security strategies, as well as the “robust support” provided by the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He also commended public-spirited residents for providing timely intelligence that aided the arrests.
Recovered items displayed to the media included 17 assorted firearms, among them English pistols and a high-powered assault rifle, four vehicles used by criminal gangs, six laptops, and other incriminating materials.
CP Jimoh said operatives on July 12, 2025, arrested a 26-year-old ex-convict identified as Biliaminu for allegedly robbing a Toyota Camry from its owner. The vehicle was swiftly recovered. In another operation, detectives intercepted the N75 million Lexus SUV smuggled into Lagos without registration or import documents. The suspect in possession of the vehicle has been taken into custody.
The Commissioner also confirmed the arrest of a notorious “one chance” gang operating with a Suzuki minibus. The syndicate, which included a female member who allegedly lured unsuspecting victims, was accused of robbing a businesswoman of several hundred thousand naira.
CP Jimoh assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the cases.
