The combined team of operatives of the Edo State Police Command and the State Security Corps, ESSC, have arrested two suspected armed robbers in Benin City.
DAILY POST reports that the spokesperson of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Ugbor Division, led by CSP Oliver Agu, on Friday, at about 2:40 a.m.
Ikoedem gave the names of the suspects as Gondas Innocent and Tasman Nanman.
She said the arrest of the suspects followed a distress call of an armed robbery at Uwadia Street, off Ogunmenyi Community, Benin City.
She said that on arrival at the scene, the hoodlums fired at the security operatives while attempting to flee and with the superior firepower one Gondas Innocent sustained pellet injury and was arrested.
The Command’s image maker added that during on-the-spot interrogation, Gondas Innocent led operatives to an uncompleted building used as a hideout.
She explained that at the uncompleted building, Tasman Nanman was arrested while others took to flight and escaped.
She listed items recovered from them to include three machetes, one laptop, one Apple iPhone, a clipper, and some clothes.
The Command has, however, assured members of the public that all the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law after the ongoing investigations of all the incidents.
Ikoedem reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining patrols, intelligence-driven operations, and robust collaboration with other security stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property across Benin City and the state at large.
She, however, encouraged members of the public to continue to provide timely and credible information to the police, as community cooperation remained a vital tool in effective policing.
