Sone Aluku reacted on Twitter after Rangers completed a move to sign Jermain Defoe on an 18-month loan deal from AFC Bournemouth – and fans reacted to Aluko’s Tweet by urging him to join Defoe back at Ibrox.
Defoe, 36, has made the somewhat surprising move to join Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, which sees the veteran striker team up with his former England teammate once again.
It sees the Gers now well-stocked in attack, with the club boasting Colombia international Alfredo Morelos, Ibrox favourite Kyle Lafferty and the 57-time England international as options.
Aluko, who played for Rangers during 2011-12 and scored 12 goals in just 23 appearances for the Teddy Bears, reacted with a series of emojis after Rangers confirmed the capture of Defoe.
Nigeria international Aluko, who currently turns out for English side Reading, is remembered most for scoring in a 3-2 win over Celtic back in March 2012 – as well as a hat-trick in his last appearance during a 4-0 win over St. Johnstone.
He has a contract at the Madjeski Stadium until the summer of 2021, but has been in and out of the side – making just 14 league appearances this season.
Rangers fans reacted to Aluko’s Tweet about Defoe by urging him to return to Ibrox from Reading, with many of the belief that he could still do a job north of the border.
