Africa Press-Nigeria:

African champions Algeria extended their unbeaten streak to nineteen matches after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Nigeria at the Wörthersee Stadium, Klagenfurt on Friday evening.

Algeria defender Ramy Bensebaini scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of the contest.

Though the Super Eagles have been inactive for close to a year, they came into the match in good form, having won their last three matches against African opposition, beating Tunisia in the third place placeoff in last year’s Africa Cup of Nations before wins against Benin and Lesotho in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

Speaking post-match, Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has said that he will take some positives from the defeat to Algeria.

“This is a very good test for us. There are positives to pick from a tough game like this,” Rohr said.

“Now we have to recover well and start to plan for the next game on Tuesday against another tough team”.

The Super Eagles will play their second international friendly in the spate of four days when they tackle Tunisia on October 13.
