A former member of the 8th National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has accused the Federal Government of attempting to silence him over his criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sani, who is currently facing alleged extortion that has led him to be in custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged that the ruling government is using the anti-graft agency to “frame” him in the scandal.
It could be recalled that the operatives of the agency had on Wednesday searched two houses and an office of the embattled former lawmaker in Abuja, which was part of the ongoing probe of the former lawmaker for alleged extortion of $24,000 from the Chairman of ASD Motors, Sani Dauda.
Dauda had in a petition to the EFCC, alleged that Sani demanded N4m from him to give to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, and four other judges to influence some pending cases in court – the links which the CJN had on Sunday denied.
Sani, who has been a staunch critic of the federal government, has consistently maintained his innocence in a message to Punch via WhatsApp from the EFCC detention.
The former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly was speaking on the matter for the first time and made a 15-point response.
