Africa-Press – Nigeria. Tragedy struck on Monday along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State when a road accident killed six people and left nine others seriously injured.
The crash occurred at Ibeju bus stop and involved a blue Volvo FL6 truck and a white Mazda commercial bus with registration number AKD 336YD.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, the deceased victims included two adult men, three women, and a young boy. Nine others, three men and six women, sustained varying degrees of injuries, while four passengers miraculously escaped without harm.
Preliminary investigations point to overspeeding, dangerous driving, and route violation as the major causes of the accident.
FRSC operatives swiftly arrived at the scene, rescuing the injured and moving them to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
The Lagos State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, extended condolences to the families of the deceased and appealed to motorists to adopt safe driving practices. He stressed that overspeeding remains one of the leading causes of deadly road crashes and urged drivers to prioritise caution and compliance with traffic regulations.
Although the identities of the victims have not yet been released, the FRSC confirmed that both drivers and passengers were among those affected.
