Africa-Press – Nigeria. Troops of the Defence Special Operations Force, DSOF, deployed at Afia Market in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State have kïlled one of the several suspected armed criminals robbing traders.
Similarly, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, deployed at the Ayilamo outpost in Logo LGA of the state have intensified patrols to protect farmers in their farms by providing them with armed escorts.
The acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, who disclosed this in a statement, noted that the troops responded to a distress call on Monday about alleged armed herders shooting at Tse Anema village in the Tombo Council Ward of Logo LGA.
He explained that the troops advanced swiftly, forcing the suspects to flee, while soldiers dominated the area with aggressive patrols to restore confidence among residents.
Zubairu added that during clearance operations at Azege village in the same ward, the troops intercepted two suspected criminals uprooting yams from a farm.
The statement noted that in a separate operation, troops of the DSOF deployed at Afia Market, Ukum LGA, engaged armed criminals who were robbing traders.
“One suspect was neutralized, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” Zubairu added.
Meanwhile, the Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, stressing that all encounters with armed groups must lead to the recovery of weapons to prevent their use against civilians.
Gara reaffirmed the commitment of OPWS to secure Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa states from violent criminals.
